Can You Lose A Lot Of Weight By Becoming A Vegetarian?
admin | April 17, 2011When you are trying to lose weight and your diet is not working then it might be tempting to think about going vegetarian instead. Afterall vegetables are good for you but low in calories, so they are the perfect food to eat right? You have to remember that become a vegetarian will have a huge impact on all areas of your life and is not a quick decision you can make, you need to weigh up the pros and cons and decide if you are serious about it or not. If you are going to be selective about when and where you will eat meat, but not cut it out completely, then that is not becoming a vegetarian, that is just reducing the amount of meat you are eating, which is not the same thing at all.
There are other ways to lose weight you might want to try first though, like meal replacement diets which are discussed in this Cookie Diet review. However if you think it is the right decision for you then here are some tips to help you make the transition.
Be sure about what you won’t eat – There are lots of different kinds of vegetarian diets and you need to decide which foods you are going to eat and which you aren’t. Some of the variations allow you to eat dairy food like eggs and milk, some allow honey, some don’t, it is up to you to choose which one fits your tastes and lifestyle the best, and that brings me to the second tip…
Start off slowly – You should never change your diet drastically all in one go, it will be too much of a shock to your system and you may end up with things like constipation or bloating as a result. Not to mention the amount of willpower it is going to take to suddenly cut so many foods out of your diet for good that you once enjoyed. So don’t jump in and try to follow your new diet religiously from day one, instead take a few months to ease into it and slowly remove more and more of the food you can’t eat over time.
Stick with fish – One of the hardest things for a vegetarian is to get enough protein into their diet, and enough of the essential amino acids that our bodies cannot make themselves. Now a strict vegetarian would not eat any fish, yet it is a really healthy meat to eat and gives you both protein and omega 3 fatty acids which your body needs, so instead you could turn to pescetarianism which is almost the same but does allow you to eat fish. On that diet then you can’t eat any other meat, just fish, which will make getting protein into your diet so much easier.
